Driven by science, informed by big data & AI techniques, at the Behavioral Insights Institute (BI2) we study and help solve private and public policy challenges.
Who we are
The Behavioral Insights Institute (BI2) is made up of talented scientists and professionals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, united by our unique expertise and passion for applying insights from the behavioral sciences to today’s most complex societal problems. True to our academic roots and rigorous scientific approach, our work is informed by a network of academic affiliates and advisors, including the world’s most influential pioneers in applied behavioral science.
BI2 partners with foundations, non-profits, government agencies, and socially minded companies to work on improving the lives of millions around the world using behavioral science. The BI2 is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization; donations are tax-deductible. BI2 is based in Massachusetts.

We are steadfast in our commitment to bringing scientific knowledge and thinking to change individual and group human behavior at scale, to advance society and to improve the economy and support innovation. We have continually evolved to meet the ever-changing challenges and needs of the leaders, policymakers, governments and institutions that we serve.
Our mission
The BI2 seeks to promote the education and understanding of behavioral insights and their application to today’s complex societal challenges in order to foster an equitable, inclusive and collaborative world.

1. We are committed to understanding the barriers that impede access to social and economic opportunities, resources and support.
2. We are determined to improve decision making through the understanding of conscious and unconscious biases.
3. We believe that by doing so we can make inclusivity the default in systems, cultures, and behaviors.
1. SDoH
We seek to identify actionable strategies and public policies to increase Social Determinants of Health (SDoH); to aid individuals who want to do the simple things everyone has the right to do—including own property, start and grow a business, speak freely about economy, politics or society, and provide their children with a good education—but can’t because of the system. We know a happy life starts with good health and well-being including access to vaccines, medicines, and treatment. We believe in changing the system, not the people and in contributing to the development of sustainable cities.
2. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
We recognize that in order to foster an equitable global culture driven by innovative, fair and inclusive policies, the world needs to ensure that all individuals irrespective of their race, gender, color, or creed represent a diversity of thought, experience and personal background. Such diversity enhances the relevance and substance of our lives and helps us adhere more closely to human rights’ guiding principles of tolerance, respect and equality as promoted by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
3. Collaboration & Sustainable world
We foster collaboration among various stakeholders from both the public and private sector to contribute to global and meaningful societal progress including providing basic infrastructures that allow access to scarce resources on land and in water. We aim to fight poverty and injustice through creating inclusive and collaborative processes and cultures. We work to overcome the challenges of hunger, access to water, war, climate change and sustainability and allow access to the most fundamental rights such as food, water and sanitation for all, health, employment, peace and a home.

We conduct and commission research in a plethora of scientific and social disciplines to illuminate the latest evidence on the most critical issues facing human behavior today. We continuously seek new ways to support people and organizations working to advance progress in our society and to promote social good.
